A historic site on the Loire

Located on the banks of the Loire, the abbaye Notre-Dame de Beaugency is the former canon house that was built in the 11th century and renovated in the 17th century.  Up to now, it still keeps its architectural splendour (chevet, carriageway gate, carved capitals, Jeux-d'arcs Choeur game...).

It accommodated the council where the King of France's wedding, Louis VII with Aliénor D' Aquitaine was declared void, as the latter was going to be the wife of the future King of England., Henri Plantagenêt. The buiding became a parochial church under the Revolution.

This vast religious house became a hotel in the early 20th century and also accommodated the Abbaye School. It proudly dominates the famous Beaugency bridge under which flows the longest river in France.
